Homelessness have become an economic crisis in New York City. Over 8000 families with children are part of the 34,000 homeless individuals.
It's no longer affects the non working families, but working individuals can no longer afford the increased burden of high rent costs.

Homeless solutions is a beautiful thing if only people really put more into it than talk. What is needed is affordable housing. Every time people talk about affordable housing, another condo goes up. This is not affordable housing. More people need to take a stand on this issue. I'm not talking about building more projects either. This is not the answer. It's sad that more people don't know that when they build a luxury high-rise there are a number of apartments that is automatically set aside for section 8 and other low to moderate income people. It's not put out there because people still have that mentality about "Not In My Neighborhood." Since they have this mentality these apartments tend to go to seniors and this is all right because the seniors need to be in a place where they are not afraid to go to the store. Families with children also need this because it's hard raising children in the "hood."

Homelessness is on the rise in the United States alone and it is sad. There are families that are struggling to pay rent that are going up and up until they have no choice but to move and stay either in the shelters and when the shelters are crowded they have to stay in the streets. They should build affordable housing for families and especially the elderly, who only rely on their pension and or social security once a month.

Homelessness is huge problem in this country. There are many programs out there but to apply is difficult. Many Landords won't accept the programs because of the fear of what types of tenants will live in their building.
I hope you efforts will alert more people to the problem and will help find a workable solution.
